Position Overview

The Chief Medical Officer will serve as the clinical leader of apo, guiding the medical vision and strategy to ensure our product’s alignment with clinical standards and healthcare needs. As a key member of the executive team, you will work closely with the CEO and CTO to develop and implement apo’s clinical direction, ensuring our solutions are innovative, effective, and clinically sound.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced medical professional with a strong background in MSK health and digital health technologies to influence and drive the future of healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership: Serve as the clinical voice within Apo, leading the development of our MSK care solutions from a medical perspective. Ensure that all solutions meet the highest standards of care, efficacy, and patient safety.

  • Product Development: Collaborate with all areas of the business to ensure the clinical validity of Apo's solutions, providing insights on MSK treatment protocols and patient management.

  • Regulatory & Compliance: Oversee the regulatory strategy, ensuring all SaMD products comply with relevant medical device regulations, including MHRA, CE marking, and FDA approvals. 

  • Reimbursement Strategy: Work closely with payers, insurers, and healthcare providers to navigate reimbursement models and ensure that Apo’s digital MSK solutions are covered and accessible for patients.

  • Evidence Generation: Lead clinical trials and post-market surveillance as necessary.

  • Real-World Evidence (RWE): Lead the design and execution of real-world evidence studies to assess the long-term effectiveness and impact of our digital health solutions in real-world clinical settings. 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product, marketing, and engineering teams to align clinical insights with product features, user experience, and the company’s go-to-market strategy. (Patient-Centred Design)

  • AI & Innovation: Experience integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into clinical workflows to enhance decision making (preferred)

  • Ethical Oversight: Ensure all clinical and product-related initiatives adhere to the highest ethical standards, particularly regarding patient privacy, data protection, and informed consent within digital health platforms. 

  • Patient Safety & Risk Management: Oversee risk management strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of patients using Apo’s digital MSK solutions, focusing on robust clinical safety measures. 

  • Partnerships & Networking: Build strong relationships with healthcare providers, researchers, and medical institutions to foster partnerships that advance Apo’s clinical credibility and expand our user base.

  • Clinical Data Management: Guide the collection, analysis, and interpretation of clinical data to demonstrate the effectiveness of our MSK solutions. Utilise data-driven insights to enhance product development and refine clinical pathways.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MD/DO) with specialisation in musculoskeletal health, orthopaedics, sports medicine, or related fields.

  • Global Regulatory Experience: Experience working within international regulatory frameworks and healthcare systems, including FDA, MHRA, and other relevant authorities worldwide.

  • Proven experience in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR)

  • Experience with ISO certifications (ISO 13485, ISO 14971) and quality management systems in medical devices.

  • Clinical experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a health tech or SaMD environment.

  • Deep knowledge of MSK care, including rehabilitation, physical therapy, and treatment protocols.

  • Experience with digital health, telemedicine, or medical software development, ideally in a regulatory environment.

  • Strong understanding of SaMD regulatory requirements (e.g., CE, FDA, MHRA) and clinical data collection.

  • Ability to communicate complex medical information to both technical and non-technical teams.
